I just posted elsewhere about just this...

I am a previous Platinum with AA when I was Boston-based. Four years ago, I relocated to PHX, and started flying HP, as they truly have the exclusivity on the lift out of PHX. TONS of direct, non-stop flights to pretty much everywhere - east coast, midwest and west coast destinations.

I have been a gold member (50k) for years. Prior to the merger, I got an upgrade 9 out of 10 times. Now, post-merger, I get it 0 out of 10. Why? A few reasons - 1) no addition of flights, routes or planes, but adding tens of thousands of CP fliers that blow out the system. 2) cleaper first-class fares that are going for revenue purchase.

It's a HORRIBLE experience now. I used to enjoy flying HP - loved the upgrades, relatively lighter loads...now, every flight I get on is not only overbooked, but also greatly delayed, mechanical issues, crew problems. Its a mess, and its no longer easy to fly US out of PHX.

I am seriously considering going back to AA - even if it means I have to connect in DFW and ORD to get anywhere I need to go. I tend to fly east coast and midwest, so even if it adds time to my day, it might be better for less of an aggravation factor.
