Not uncommon to have the schedule change when the summer time tbale gets confirmed. So a longer connection time might have done the trick.
Why didn't you ask for an earlier departure from LIS --- if you bought an add on ticket -then it is entriely your respnsibility...

It is not BS. There is no award avaliability - and they definately won't release it to UA -- you know UA MP is disadvantaged comapred to other *A carries re award seats.

Is there a UA First Class lounge in FRA or is it just a RCC?
If the seat opens up a few days before oyu are out of luck, as oyu are ticketed in C -- and LH will not change it out of good will - like UA wouldn't as they cannot see at checkin if UA paid full mileage for it or if it is a split ticket.
Even if oyu go back to your original flight the F seats will be gone - O seats canacled go first back into F and have to be rereleased to O class.
Choices:
1) Move to UA - best bet as they can call revenue management and open seats
2) Go back to original flight and change connecting flight - meaning probaly buying a new ticket as US-Europe only allows one connection I assuem you bought the tickets ...
