To address the original question:

ORD had some pretty miserable weather Sunday morning. Moderate rain, reduced visiblity, moderately high winds. Since my 0935 flight actually left at 1015 I don't know what it was like later in the day, but you very well could have been the victim of knock-on delays. I imagine PIT flights are high on the priority list for cancellation since US is available.
