Alitalia denies need a loan to survive (source : Reuters)

The Italian press says that the company needs 300 million to survive until the merger with Air France.

Alitalia denies need a loan to survive until its takeover by Air France-KLM. The company answers to information from the Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore, which affirms that Alitalia, which had repeatedly stated they need an injection of 750 million euros by the middle of the year, could be given a loan of 300 million euros in order to continue to operate.

A favor that would be necessary because of the lengthening of the timetable for privatization caused by the fall of the Prodi government, new elections and the desire for a part of the Italian political class to see the private company Air One return into the game. The talks could end in June, and until then, Alitalia could be short of money.

Meanwhile, Air One Friday denied press information according to which it could launch its own bid to acquire Alitalia, saying that it preferred to wait until after his appeal process. A court rejected Wednesday an initial legal action for the suspension of discussions between Air France and Alitalia.
