I have very long, thick hair as well. The ION dryer does cut my drying time in half and I blow dry every day. I did learn not to use high heat as my first dryer literally fried my hair. Use the medium heat setting and I'm good to go.

Not sure about making hair smoother. My hair is as straight as can be (some days I'd kill for curls ) so I don't see a difference.
