I believe part of the problem is what you havn't experienced, that NW Elites will soon face... lack of any familiar corporate identity.... I think that with the merger of AF/KL, while there was the combination of the FF programs, you still have the same color / logo on the planes, FA's, you can call customer service and not have to hear the prompts in French, etc. There is still a familiarity when you go into the lounge in Schipol...
I think thats the most telling, while we may be able to stomach some givebacks for our FF program as Flying Dutchman did, the wholesale divestiture of NWA as an identity, corporate culture, the "Minnesota Nice", is a hard thing to face. I think this thread lays out many of the things we can expect when NWA is gone. It is more than "accepting change or givebacks" as it is a complete change from the experiences we have had with NWA.
This "merger" is being pushed by Delta, there is NO REASON for NWA to merge, other than for Dougie to get a boatload of cash. No one else in MN will profit from this merger, many will lose their jobs. There has been no plan put forward as to the future, just alot of promises and givebacks. Yes, I can understand if there were positives to the merger, but I can't see any for NWA. It may be good in the corporate sense, which on many fronts I will disagree with, but there are too many positives throughout the NWA organization.
Since BK the company has come a long way and is turning into a profitable machine. Just when things are looking bright, this will set things back.... Delta needs NWA, not the other way around. Its a shame this is being railroaded at such light speed and those responsible will be long gone with their $$$ before this is settled

I believe my city AMS is better served by a strong, profitable, global airline with a great route network that is no longer Dutch than having the airline simply disappear (Sabena, Swiss, etc) or largely de-HQ and risk de-emphasizing the town (as is threatening for MSP with NW).
2-3 years ago, I was more vocal than anyone here. It is really hard to get used to having something and no longer have it (elite benefits); especially when promises have been made explicitly or implicitly. It is even harder to lose an entire brand or company that you rely on and have to trust. Hopefully, Northwest+Delta will realize the potential to harvest "Minnesota Nice" in the future and the best of NW, Worldperks and MN will be retained.
BTW: I still believe now as I did then, that it makes sense to shop around at the time of material program changes.
