Is smoking onboard aircraft really a (federal) crime? When was that law passed? I remember the days when smoking was allowed onboard. It was the airlines that decided to ban smoking, not the fed.
I recall the law/regulation was imposed in the late 90s after most, if not all, of the US airlines had banned smoking on their flights. The US decided to make it a law and require that smoking be prohibited on all airlines on any flight to, from, or within the US.
