I've flown through NRT, AMS, WAW, GVA, and numerous US airports with my monopod in my carry-on and, other than a closer examination of it by a few curious security types, I've never had a problem. My only precaution these days is to put it separately into the bin alongside my coat. This has so far prevented any secondary re-x-raying and swabbing of my bags.
