This means very long lines form for checking in bags before that time (so if you did have checked bags then you might have to get there early) but also means there is no sense at all getting there before 5am if you can OLCI or are in a premium line (either by fare or elite status).
In your case it's one of the rare times being *Silver has a tangible benefit outside of UA (I've been there myself whilst graduating from 2P to 1K before jumping UA ship!)
Great, this is very good to know. Incidentally I'm also in the gradual process of jumping ship, to BA (mainly due to future CW travel with my new employer and the allure of T5). This non-biz trip I'm making with LX (i'm connecting at ZRH to CAI) was meant to be in WT+ with BA, but, like many I guess, the potential pilot strike talk drove me into the familiar arms of Star
