Me, too, but we're not everyone. There are a number of US passengers who would prefer to connect here where everyone is amerikan as a comfort issue.

Further, if faced with a double-connect (ZZZ-Gateway-Gateway-Smaller Euro airport) there are a significant number who would take the US connection. If I had to get to CGN, BRS, EDI, etc. from a non-gateway city in the USA I would much rather only connect once - even if it is in EWR - than connect twice. The feeder network into EWR makes this possible on a scale that no european carrier can match.
