Actually NW serves Asia from more than just DTW, it serves NRT daily from almost every major West Coast airport: LAX, SFO, PDX, SEA x2 daily, HNL 2x daily + MSP.

Agreed that NW/CO lack any n/s West Coast service (which they codeshare from AS), but the Asian gateway is well covered.
