so with those rules why would anyone chose this program?

As I mentioned, I have logged dozens of stays at three other major chains (each) over the last few years, and not one of them has denied me credit for these sorts of stays. Unless the program points or benefits were fantastic compared to other comparable properties, why would PC members chose to stay where they have to worry about such an issue? I notice in a later thread that there is discussion of what properties you have to argue for points, and which ones give them to you without a hassle, like this is a SOP for PC!

I also see from the threads here that there are complaints about properties not consistently giving lounge benefits and the like. Moreover, when I've priced IC properties, the rates seem equal to or higher than other major chains.

So given your post, Dave, it seems this is certainly their right to deny the points, but I'll admit to being baffled why anyone would consider this a worthwhile program to patronize in a world where other options exist. These rates are like $79 to $110, for example, for weekends, for basically AAA 3-star type properties; an ok deal in my book, but generally nothing to write home about (and not rates I personally even frankly consider competitive). If there were no comparable choices other than this program, or as I say above, if the benefits were fantastic, then fine, but that is not at all the case as far as I can tell -

And again, is there a workaround on this issue that isn't too terribly much hassle? I'd like to see my friend get credit for her 100 nights or so of stay.

I do think it is a 'disloyalty' program if just getting basic reasonable treatment (that one can easily get elsewhere with no argument) is a constant battle; better for them to give lower points and crappy benefits, I would think but at least give everyone what they think they've earned without too much argument or hassle. I do think my friend based on her 2 1/2 to 3 hours on the phone today with PC and with limited success is already convinced that this program is no longer worth her time or effort for future stays, and she feels pretty gyped. We are not talking a single stay here; but a dozen or more stays with 100 plus nights, and not a single night's stay credit. That seems like a disloyalty program to me.

thanks!
