NWA bends rules...but doesn't let you know

Hi,
I recently encountered an interesting conundrum with NWA and wondered if anyone else had experienced the same thing.

My S.O. and I both fly NWA frequently. So, we decided to sign up for their Worldperks program. I was about one flight behind her in miles by the end of 2007.

In January, NWA sent her a nice letter saying she didn't qualify for elite status under the rules but since she was a good customer they'd give her elite status at 23,000 miles. Well, that's wonderful, except no one told me I could qualify at 23,000 miles if I was a good customer.

We debated taking extra flights at the end of the year to qualify but since I needed two and she only needed 1, we decided it was pointless and we'd try for the next year. If I'd known I could have gotten in for 1 flight, I'd have done it, but they don't tell you that.

Anyway, I'm at 20,000 miles and now we can't use elite status together. The only way for me to catch up is to schedule two first-class or m-class tickets in 60 days or something like that. So far I've bought one first class ticket. It kind of defeats the point, but oh well.

Ned.
