Suggest to avoid any cottages with tin roofs. Volcano Village is in a rain forest. We stayed in a darling cottage (sorry don't remember name) but the noise of rain on the tin roof was deafening - couldn't hear each other more than a foot away when it rained after we came back from dinner. What are you doing "sleeping"?
I actually liked the Volcano hotel, or whatever it's called. The views of the caldera in the morning are well worth the extra $ it costs over private homes/B&Bs in the village.
Also, don't miss the Thai restaurant in "town" (I forget the name but there is only one, as well as the Volcano Winery).
