I informed the gentleman how is this possible at all when the aircraft had 15 saleable seats less than 2 days ago and 3 upgrade seats available just yesterday? He informed me that 14 saleable seats could have been sold over the past day.
I am sure he felt well informed by you. It is perfectly possible for seats to sell, as well as it is for others to upgrade. Their are many of us who do not call in the at 12:01. Their could easily have been SEs who can upgrade sooner.
So I just logged onto AC's website and selected the same flight segments and then clicked on the aircraft type to see the loads. Suprisingly enough I see 13 seats open!!!!!!!!!!
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE????
As STP pointed out in both of his replies, that is not an indication of loads or seats sold. Many people do not get seat assignments when they book. You need KVS or Expertflyer to see the loads.
I have been told I am on standby now and will need to check at the gate in Osaka to be confirmed.
Standby for the flight, or waitlisted for the upgrade?
To top this, I am a strict vegetarian, hence booked a special asian vegetarian meal. If they can only confirm the upgrade at the airport to executive first, this would mean I would 1. either not have a J class vegetarian meal for a 9+ hr flight since they require 24 hours prior notice to departure for special meals or 2. my economy class meal would be brought over to executive first cabin.
Oh the horror of it all, having to suffer in J class with a meal from economy. If your upgrade comes through, be grateful for the meal you get, no matter what it is. I enjoy good food as much as the next person, however I am grateful for what I receive. If you loosen up on the strict diet, you will find it much easier. If varying from your strict diet causes problems, take food with you.
What should I do knowing that the only reason I booked this flight and planned the trip was to use up my 2 remaining SSW upgrade coupons.
Obviously the upgrade is everything to you, I would cancel the trip. Their could be an unexpected operational issue the day before your flight, causing your flight to be oversold with C&J fares trumping you along with a few SEs. Chances of this happening are slim.
If you want to guarantee a comfy seat, pay for it with cold hard money. If you want the chance of a comfy seat, play the upgrade game.
