I'm with dabee69. I use a Nikon lens pen. Gently brush any dust particles off. For any other residue like smudges, the other side of the pen which has some magic cleanser on what looks like a tiny, narrow plunger that cleans it up in a jiffy. I've had the same pen in my bag for over a year and it still works fine.
