You are in for a shock. There is no first class on European flights. It's called business class, but the seat is exactly the same as economy, the only difference is the middle seat is not sold. There is less room than U.S. domestic first class.
As for the LAX-CDG leg. I personally think AF are getting worse. I flew CDG-DXB in business two weeks ago, and it was quite appalling to be honest. The food was not even fit for the economy cabin. But I'm sure other people have had positive experiences too so don't worry too much and keep an open mind.
Oh and try and get a seat which isn't the middle seat on the triple seven. Yes, a middle seat when other U.S. carriers have 2-2-2.
