You would receive the upgrade anyways. You would be asked for the stickers, or cost thereof, when checking in. You can't get an upgraded boarding pass without the stickers in your account. But you can certainly get upgraded without having the stickers yet. Many people do it.

And the online purchased stickers credit quite quickly, usually a matter of an hour or so not days.
