I most dislike people who carry on luggage even when the plane is full. If the plane appears very short of passengers go for it but not when it is a full flight. At least gate check your bag. I am almost always sitting in the front of the plane and I hate when too many people have carried on their luggage and I cannot put my computer in an overhead bin that is within 1 row of my seat.
I dislike it when (1) the airline loses my bag, (2) the airline delays my bag, and (3) in the event the airline doesn't lose or delay my bag, it adds an extra 30 minutes to check-in and 1 hour to arrival, just to deal with checked luggage.
If the airlines ever start handling bags efficiently and effectively, I'd consider checking bags. Until then, I'll carry-on my perfectly legal, compliant luggage.
