We spent 17 nights in Italy past Christmas and New Year time. Four in family, two adults, two kids 13 and 15. We stayed at the Westin Excelsior in Rome, Grand in Florence, Danieli in Venice and the Westin Palace in Milan. SPG have a FaMtastic package for families which gives you the second room for kids under 17 at half price and free breafast for all four. Luxury Collection also have an all in USD 379 dollars per night per room package ( inclusive of all taxes, and breakfast for two per room) which is not too bad for Italy. The staff in Austin is quite helpful. We got connecting rooms in all hotels, with some nice upgrades thrown in (I hit SPG platinum during the vacation!). Hope this helps.
