Thanx Schofs I do remember your trip report but I also seem to remember you used AA miles which I do not have so I don't see that being a viable proposition. I do have lots of BA, BD and LH miles but that doesn't seem to be very helpful. I wondered if there was some ex Italy type trick which might reduce the fare from NRT but I think I am clutching at straws. I really want to try the Meridien Bora Bora with my 4 free Meridien nights but getting there seems to be a real pain.
If you can get to NZ, PPT is in the same zone as AKL, so Business Class flights can be had with very few BD miles.
You could also do the whole of LAX-AKL-PPT using BD miles on AirNZ... if you don't mind going via the US. You could do it via SYD but we know how good availability is on the Kangaroo route
