The Paris to Avignon run, which I did in December, 2003, was the most impressive train ride I had ever taken.
I live in London . . . I've been on both TGV and Eurostar in both 1st and 2nd many times for both work and leisure. I think you've completely misread my post. I'm really just challenging that Acela is not "pathetic." Truthfully, if you get past the speed issues, its a nicer train (albeit much newer). As you (and I) posted, the others are much faster. But, take into account how often TGV stops (and Eurostar on the London to Brussels route) and all that high speed gets washed up a bit.

Anyhow, this is completely off topic for this thread . . .

Here's what I abhor (sorry adhor) about flying:

1) Airlines not enforcing carry-on rules
2) Cattle call boarding on intra-EU flights (rarely ever an elite pre-boarding)
3) Inconsiderate fellow flyers (not necessarily Ma/Pa Kettles--they can sometimes be more considerate) . . . things like, taking twelve years to take your coat off at security, blocking the people movers, etc.
4) Nasty airline employees. If I ask you something nicely, please respond in kind. If I become an a$$, then you can take your gloves off too (unless I'm right!).
