I would like to put it on record that I disagree with everything you say... and that I am confident that many many other people do too. From my observations most UK residents want like visitors to feel welcome here, and that includes being treated with courtesy and respect by Immigration officials.
While I'm far from a regular traveler into the UK, I certainly wasn't impressed by passport control on the inbound.
No acknowledgement of my presence, three short questions and paperwork thrown on the counter in front of me without even a "Thank you" all with a snide look.
On the other hand I've had an awesome time talking to the baggage control officers while waiting for my things and upon exiting.
