I would like to put it on record that I disagree with everything you say... and that I am confident that many many other people do too. From my observations most UK residents want like visitors to feel welcome here, and that includes being treated with courtesy and respect by Immigration officials.
I think if you re-read my post carefully and not rush in with all preconceptions blazing you'll find I didn't say travellers shouldn't be treated with courtesy and respect.
What I did say is that they should be prepared to answer some very basic questions which are asked by all immigration departments the world over.
Otherwise you might as well just have a door marked " Push " for people to walk through.
The UK has welcomed more genuine refugees than just about any other country.
It's why so many people want to come here - they like our concept of decency and fair play.
I suspect part of the problem is that Fters as a whole are regular flyers and believe their collection of miles affords them some sort of preferential treatment at Immigration.
I always find a little humility and politeness in the face of stern-faced officialdom works miracles....especially if you're suffering jet-lag and have partaken freely of the drinks trollley.
