I'm with Eastbay1K. 2 x International First = 240,000 miles as my dream minimum.

Of course those 240K can be used for any number of other upgrade or emergency free award travel as well, if the need arises.

Prior to 9-11 and United's continuing problems with their bottom line, 500,000 would have been my number. FYI, I am burning off miles at an alarming but fun rate to get down to my new boxing weight of 240K.

But I do continue to fly revenue as well, and my account balance is in a constant state of flux.

It's funny. Just a couple of years ago I was concerned I didn't have enough miles in my account for all the free traveling I anticipated during my golden years. Now I worry if I have too many miles and don't want to be left holding an big empty bag if things should happen to go sour for United.
