I just avoid Alamo generally. I can never get the promo codes to work, so Hertz and Avis usually come out cheaper, particularly on shorter rentals where I often get 1 weekend day free or a nice discount. Hertz and Avis also provide far better service.
Alamo used to be worthwhile when it was the low price leader (kind of like WN) but now it isn't the lowest and unlike WN its service sucks.
