They should just bring back the 500 mile upgrade converts to 500 extra miles feature.
Well, SFO/LAX-IAD are two of the most difficult routes for upgrades to clear, especially on A319/320. Next time, book 757, 767, or 777 then you should have no problem.
Also, many of us FTers took advantage of the UA registration allowing those of us who registered to continue to be able to convert expiring 500 milers into 500 RDMs.
