I agree that I wouldn't go back for CNY, but it was a pretty good visit. It was cold - coldest in 12 years - but tolerable, and much better than NYC where I came from. Macau was apparently very crowded/busy on Saturday but Sunday was a piece of cake. I showed up at the ferry terminal on HK island at 9am and was on the 9:10a ferry, having purchased a ticket, cleared immigration and "checked in" for my seat assignment. Coming back was similarly easy. Another FTer who went on Saturday got to the terminal at 9 and didn't get a ferry until after noon. I was willing to buy up to super class for the extra $10 to save 1.5 hours of sitting around on the outbound; the return was available in both regular and super class.
The
parade was strange, but entertaining. The
fireworks were awesome. And the city had a calm about it that I'm sure isn't normal, but most restaurants that I wanted to go to were open (or I just decided to go to the open ones; I wasn't all that particular about my dining).
