Any transmitting device which intentionally radiates radio frequency signals, such as citizen band (CB) radios and transmitters that remotely control devices such as toys.[/INDENT]
No contest that RF-emitting devices should be prohibited, but wireless mice do not radiate at
radio frequencies: wireless mice are infra-red devices.
Let me be clear. We are NOT talking about cell phones, which have sufficient radiating power to send signals across a fuselage. We are nNOT talking about Blackberry-type devices which also can send and receive through an airplane skin. Rather, we are talking about infra-red radiation, which has essentially no penetrating power on conductors.
Again, I'm perfectly willing to be corrected if there is any evidence that such devices actually cause interferences (I'd sure has h*ll like to understand from a professional perspective how this is possible) but everything I know suggest there is no way the signal can go through even the thinnest of conductors (this would include a cockpit door). Anyone with information contrary to my position can post it here, email me or send me a PM.
Maybe there are special circumstances: I know AC has special radio equipment for North Pole navigation and communication. Not the right frequency range, but maybe IR causes some problem with this gear.
My position is simple: AFAIK, AC is the only airline to prohibit such devices, which suggest that this restriction is unwarranted.
