The OP is based in SFO (according to his profile) so would not be able to sign up before the upcoming trip - but could sign up while waiting for the connection to Switzerland.
Last time I arrived at T3 (a week ago today) there was a short queue at the Iris machine - but not a single person ahead of me for EU passport control! (Admittedly this was fairly late in the evening - I was coming off the daytime flight from YYZ)
