One way to provide an "extra" and draw attention to the fact that it's unique to your property is to provide something "local." Have a famous local candy company? Provide a couple of their chocolates. Consider offering the local newspaper as an option.
Keep an eye on the offerings at local competitors, too. For instance, Hampton has a free continental breakfast; their elite recognition is generally fairly weak, but includes a small snack in the room at arrival (not much -- bag of chips and water) and a personalized welcome note. I'm not familiar with the elite programs of the other properties you mentioned, but it's worth looking into.
At "value" brands like Four Points, I find that the things I take notice of most aren't expensive. Some free or low-cost things I've seen properties do that really make a difference:
- Keep a folder of local takeout menus (and make sure people know you have it)
- Designate a couple of "SPG Elite" parking spaces
- Pre-block elite rooms, and spend 30 seconds preparing them: leave a personalized note, and turn on a bedside lamp so that the room's not dark when the guest arrives.
Just a few off the top of my head. Ultimately, you're already doing the most important thing, which is asking!
