I always put cab fare on the company CC. I request a cab that takes Visa before leaving. Once in Chicago, once we arrived at the destination, his machine was suddenly 'broke'. Obviously he didn't want the CC hit and wanted cash.

From now on, when I get my Visa cab, I ask again if they take Visa, as I have NO cash. Haven't had an issue since.
In four weeks in Philadelphia (where ALL cabs are required to have credit card equipment), I found exactly one cabbie that welcomed CC payment. All of them asked for cash, most claimed the machine was broken, and just a few could be pressured into taking it anyway in the few minutes effort I gave it.

I asked one driver and he claimed they had to wait weeks for the money from CC payment. I suspect it has more to do with (under-reporting) taxes...
