Australia and the United States could sign an "open skies" agreement this week that will give Virgin Blue clearance to launch 10 weekly services to the United States.

Surprisingly, Qantas has no problem with a Virgin / V Australia competitor.
Much better to have a startup competitor without a big network than SQ!
We will see if US airlines can use this as an opportunity to return to Australia's airspace.
