Getting my taxes back from a non-refundable ticket?
Dear all,
Need some advice here.
I was due to travel GLA-YYZ / YUL-GLA at the weekend, but couldn't travel because my travel companion was ill. We made it to Glasgow airport but decided that her gastritis and nausea was too debilitating. We were advised by BA at Glasgow airport who off-loaded us (we checked-in online the day before) that although the booking was non-refundable, we could get our airport taxes back by calling BA.
1. Phoned BA in the UK, and was told to phone our travel agent to get our taxes back (Expedia US).
2. Phoned Expedia and was told that BA has the money and control of the reservation and they have nothing to do with airport tax refunds. They phoned BA (in the US) on my behalf and were told that I wasn't entitled to a refund. Expedia suggested that I take it up with BA.
3. Phoned BA in the US who said that it was Expedia that should start the refund process, and they couldn't comment on whether I was entitled to a refund of my taxes.
We've got a report from the out-of-hours GP the night before, and would speak to the travel insurance company, but are we not entitled to get our airport taxes back because we didn't travel?
