All in all the non-smoking ban is working well (at least for this non-smoker). I just got back from a week in Paris and Bordeaux and the cafes and bars are now pleasent places rather than the ashtrays they used to be. My only criticism is that all hotel rooms are now non-smoking, but some of the hotel rooms I stayed in still smelt vaguely of old smoke.... not nice. I don't think establishments tried too hard to properly clean their smoking rooms.
