Not sure what is legal but that doesn't matter. Since if you miss your LAX-AUK flight you have to wait 24 hours for the next one, I would make sure you give yourself at least 2 hours for the connection, or even 3. (I did IAD-LAX-AUK last year with a 90 minute LAX layover. Unfortunately my flight was delayed (mechanical) out of IAD by 2 1/2 hours and so I missed my connection and had a 24 hour layover in LAX. Next time I will get to LAX by no later than 7 for the 10pm flight).
