Unused Nonrefundable tickets now expire in 1 year

UA has changed its policy with regard to the exchange of unused nonrefundable tickets. Previously, such tickets were valid for the life of the passenger. This policy was similar to that of AA. About a month or so ago AA changed its policy to limit exchange of nonrefundable ticket to one year after issue.

UA has now matched the new AA policy - unused nonrefundable tickets may be exchanged for a new nonrefundable ticket only up to one year from the date of original issue of the unused ticket.

An amazing number of unused non-refundable tickets, especially those purchased by corporations, never get re-used or exchanged. This has become a major source of income for airlines, and they are doing as much as possible to take advantage of this opportunity.
