I've done this (trade up a travel package) more than once with no problem. Last year, I forgot to extend one that went over one year, and it disappeared from my account. I called MR, and they reinstated it for another year. If the rules have changed, I'm not aware of it.

Would be nice if Chris would comment on this, but haven't seen him around much lately.
