Interesting. I guess this shows you that everyone has their own opinion as to what "good service" is. We recently flew ATN -- LAX -> PPT -> SYD (and return) and LOVED it. We were in "cattle" class (funny....never heard someone refer to those of us that can't afford business / first class as 'cattle'), and thoroughly enjoyed the service. The seats were extremely comfortable. The recline pitch was more than adequate, and the seat bottom cushion slid out as well when you reclined. The PPT -> SYD leg of the trip had foot rests as well. As far as the service we were extremely pleased, and according to our friends who flew Qantas, the service we received on ATN was MUCH better than the service they got. About 30 minutes after take-off the beverage cart was wheeled out and we were served very quickly without issue. Good selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The food was delivered soon after (and we had a special meal for our son and got it without any problems). Immediately following the food service another round of drinks, followed by coffee and water service. I honestly can't count how many times the attendants were up and down the aisle asking if anyone needed anything. In addition, they gave my son a backpack that included games, a visor, and other toys to keep him entertained. This was a welcomed surprise to say the least.

About 2 hours before landing, out came the beverage cart and meal carts again....and again service was excellent.

In addition, each seat has it's own video system with about 10 movies to choose from.

Also....of the 4 legs we flew, not a single one was completely sold out. So there were plenty of opportunities to change seats once on board.

As far as how it compares to Qantas, like I said before our friends that met us in Australia said the service was horrible. Anytime they needed something after the meal service was completed, the flight attendants were nowhere to be seen. And when they finally did track someone down for a measly glass of water, they were made to feel like it was an inconvenience.

So guess this goes to prove that everyone has their own interpretation of what "good service" is. I would fly Air Tahiti again in an instant were we to go to Tahiti or even Australia.

On a side note........if you're heading to Australia from the states, I highly recommend the Air Tahiti Nui routing (overnight in PPT). Sure it takes you a few extra hours of travel time, but you arrive in SYD without feeling completely exhausted (as you would were you to fly non-stop on Qantas).
