Welcome to what life was like in the late 90's, before the tech bubble burst. I regularly stayed at the San Ramon Marriott when having business in Sunnyvale. Then, after 9/11, places like the San Jose Marriott and Santa Clara Marriott were HAPPY to have our piddly per diem rooms sold.

Amen! I'm in SJC several times a year. Hotels basically can do/get away with whatever they want at the moment....at least on weeknights. Tough to catch any type of break. Of course, when things go bust out there....as they always do from time to time...the hotels can suddendly become
very customer-friendly.
