I've got about 50,000 miles in my delta account with the option to add loads more through my amex rewards, however I am based in Europe and have no need to fly through the U.S. when redeeming a free flight so I was looking at the option of using my delta miles on another skyteam member.

Questions:

1.) Can redemption for free skyteam flights with delta miles only be done over the phone? If so, how wide is the selction they offer? ( i.e. do i have to book ages in advance to get anything ?)

2.) Are delta mile amounts required for the free flights on skyteam value for money ? For instance I could get some flights for half the miles with the great webawards discount on flying blue.

I know I can transfer AMEX points to flying blue but what would I do with the 50,000 delta miles, since I won't be travelling to the US anytime soon...
