Drive the H3 over the Koolau's, leave civilization and emerge from the tunnels into land of 'Lost' - waterfalls, incredible lush mountainsides, head for Kaneohe, then south to Kailua and follow the coast road around the eastern tip back to Waikiki.
Or head north from Kaneohe, hit the shrimp trucks, cruise the north shore, stop at the best looking beach... I'd rent a car - easy to drive - do the Pali Highway, all kinds of great drives on Oahu... once you get out of Waikiki.
Since he's 'such a tourist,' does he like shopping too? Besides Kalakaua Avenue shopping, don't miss Ala Moana Mall - one of my favorite places on earth

The food court there is great, but for better food, check out Mariposa in Neiman Marcus (nice views over the harbor) or Alan Wong's Pineapple Grill in Macy's (nice views over the parking lot... or it might be construction now with the new Nordstrom coming in...) Anyway, still great food & a wonderful lunch... and amazing stores!!
And for fun, take a surfing lesson together!!
