The general correct answer for American newbies is either Salzburg or Neuschwanstein. Both destinations are easy to reach from Munich and offer a lot to tell your friends at home about.

The times in wich I was earning my money as a tourguide are long gone
But once again: Salzburg / Berchtesgaden will be a great choice for a weekend getaway.
