The total mileage needed for the award can't be known until the entire itinerary is booked. And once ticketed, no route or carrier changes. One can cancel an unused itinerary, but no guarantee that the award inventory will be available. Lastly, 2 F seats on some of these popular routes. Very difficult. Better off trying for 2 biz class seats.
But if I went for biz class seats on some, and first class on others, what a waste of miles. Might as well do the whole trip in biz, which is not the point of this trip. It's the final trip before we start a family, and I want it to be all first class, if available. I'll be on the phone one year in advance to see if some routes are available, and if they are, I'll plan the trip around those.
