Most Marriott award reservations require you to guarantee it with a credit card. Your credit card is not charged at the time of reservation, but it will be charged if you do not show up. You can cancel the award up to the date of cancellation with no penalties. I see that the property you mentioned will let guests cancel up to 14 days before the day of arrival for award reservations.
