I tend to leave magazines and books behind on airplanes. It's actually part of my strategy for freeing up space for stuff to buy.
A big problem with flights to Scandinavia is that people remove the seatbelts. A friend is a pilot based in Malta and on his Scandinavian flights they often can't board people because seatbelts are missing - the thieves make belts out of them.
Because Rod has sat in the cockpit on many flights, we have become friendly with some our crews and invited some out sailing on their layovers. We were pretty surprised to find one NON-UA crew show us all the stuff they'd collected that day from things left behind by passengers. One FA picked up a video camera, though mostly they acquire books. And yes, the co-pilot had a nice stash of little alcohol bottles that he consumed while sailing. I doubt this would happen to this degree with a UA crew; they are generally the most professional of all we've flown with. Certainly changed my feelings about this particular airline though.
For the record, I do have one CO blanket I took from a gate area on 9/11. I honestly expected to be sleeping in the airport with lots of others that night and thought it might come in handy.
