Thanks for the reply, kered - I found it alarming and amusing, in equal amounts!

A major problem I have found with IE, is the inconsistency of the answers from the "helpdesk" staff. Today, when I asked if I could book online given that I have an onward connection from ORD the young woman (and I stress the word young - and for it also hear very inexperienced, which seems typical of IE staff) said "well, you probably could, but I think you might be just as well using the check in desk". To which, I replied (and this is becoming my standard - and honest - response to "guesstimate" replies from IE):

"I'm going on this trip for the ***** ***** newspaper and I would need the correct answer, and not an opinion, if that's OK?" That sent her off to ask her supervisor for the correct answer - and she put me on hold and didn't come back for 15 minutes, at which point I hung up!
