AFAIK, you will be able to check on on-line or use the Self Service Check in kiosks for your EI flights. If you have other bags to be checked in it might be worth your while, as suggested before, to have someone hold onto the camera bag so it doesnt attract any questions at the bag tag desks. Believe me I have seen countless bags on board EI flights that weigh considerably more than the 6k allowance.
