I will put this as simply as possible, even though it repeats things I already said.

United sold me the ticket.
United is what's painted on the plane.
United made the contract with Skywest, and specified in that contract all relevant level of service and operability of Skywest's aircraft.

You're correct that who sold me the ticket makes no difference. "Who" sold me the ticket could be anybody... Priceline, UA.com, whatever. "What" is on that ticket does make a difference. My ticket says-

UA73818
FROM MADISON
TO DENVER
GATE 7, ETC

My ticket doesn't even say "United Express" anywhere on it (which surprised me, frankly). Nor is there any warning on my itinerary that UAX doesn't provide the same levels of service as UA (aside from information pertaining to specific planes). All policies & procedures are the same.

UAX is delivering whatever quality UA is specifying, and there's no corporate disconnect in UA marketing to tell you that mainline UA planes are maintained to better standards, or that UA in general is something you should prefer to fly over UAX.

So that's why I take issue with your statement that said-
You may have an issue with United reservations, since they sold you the ticket, but it's a different airline.
