UAL Web Site Itinerary Problems
This is my first post to this forum. I only wish I'd found this forum before i bought my tickets. Anyway, I recently bought tickets from IAD to BKK on Orbitz. They were about $1250 after all the fees. I got them at Orbitz because the cheapest flights I could get at the UAL web site were over $1600. Also, the UAL web site kept trying to route me through London or Frankfurt, which is the slow way to go to Asia.
Today, I tried to recreate my iternary on the UAL web sit. After considerable experimentation, I suceeded. First, I went for the mutli-city itinerary. I put the departure times closest to the flight I actually booked. This was IAD (9:00AM) to SEA (12:00) to BKK. Then BKK (7:00AM) to SEA (12:00) to IAD. The return flight matched my (already purchased) Orbitz itinerary, but the outbound flight went SEA to LHR to BKK. Then I priced the flight. It came out at $3298, accompanied by a statement saying, consider this lower priced alternative. And there it was. IAD to SEA to BKK and back again for $1236.50. The very same flights I'd booked on Orbitz. If I'd known I could get that itinerary on at UAL, I would've booked it there and gotten my 1000 mile bonus.
So, I am doing this right? Is there an easier way to do this? If I just say get me the cheapest flight to BKK the web site does not bring up this $1236 fare.
